Name: Dr. Eric C. Miller, DPM
Practice location: Lima Memorial Health System, Lima, Ohio
How many years have you been in practice? 27 wonderful years.
Who were your mentors? My surgical training was in Philadelphia that involved both Podiatrist and Orthopedist. Dean Ruday DPM, Paul Steinfeld MD, John Avalone DO, Bijoy Ghosh MD
What do you like the best about your practice? I see a variety of chronic bone and joint conditions as well as trauma. The best part of the practice is being able to resolve the patient's condition and allow them to get back to activities they enjoy.
What do you like to do outside of work? I place a significant emphasis on family and fitness. My wife Krista and I routinely walk our dog Bodhi several times a week. We also visit my nearby daughter Alyssa and son in law and their dog Cal often. We meet for dinner weekly despite our hectic schedules. If not busy on a weekend, we visit my son Dalton that coaches and teaches at Indiana Wesleyan University. From a fitness perspective, I lift weights daily at lunch and train for Triathlons in the evening. This gives me the opportunity to decompress
What is your most significant contribution to your profession or community? I have been strongly involved as former director and now a main faculty member in educating foot and ankle residents over the last 27 years. Training and mentoring these new physicians to help advance our profession has been extremely rewarding. Also, I am thankful to have the opportunity to lecture on various platforms. This has allowed me to share other physicians’ current experiences and techniques to help advance our profession. From a community standpoint, I believe providing great care to the people of the area. They can obtain exceptional and total foot and ankle care without having to travel to a metropolitan area.
What is something people may not know about you? I have a type A personality, ultra competitive. Also, my wife and I love to travel yearly for our anniversary to Las Vegas!
Professional statement: I feel truly honored and blessed to be a podiatric surgeon. I thoroughly enjoy going to work every day whether in the office or in the OR with staff or my residents. After yearly reflection, I am amazed by our profession's continued advancement in foot and ankle surgery. This allows us to be leaders in the field. This profession has been and will continue to be very rewarding to me from a professional and family balance standpoint.
